JURASSIC PARK 3-HIGH DEF BROADCAST VS DVD PLAYBACK

------
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a non-scientific experiment to compare a high def broadcast of a movie against a comparable dvd thru a Pioneer Dv825 player thru the same high def Toshiba Regeza 37 inch television using a Samsung S630 camera. Unfortunately, I did not have a tripod so I had to handhold the camera. Therefore I lost an important "constant" to the experiment. It would have been nice to have a dvd player that could have upconverted from 480I to 1080I on this 720P television but that part of an experiment was not critical. Different dvd players might in fact give a slightly different picture than the one I used against the broadcast as well. I consider this player quite accurate color wise IMHO and overall picture wise in reproducing a dvd. I have a dv341 Pioneer unit that I think is better. I have seen an Elite DV37 put this one to shame on its picture quality playing at 480P. However I have been please the way this unit has been playing on the component video cables on my set.
It is difficult to label these pictures on this blogger format. You will note there are two pictures of the same scene. The top picture of the scene is from the dvd player. The bottom picture of that scene is from the high def broadcast from the High Def Theater Network.
HERE ARE MY COMMENTS:
GROUP 1-DINOSAURS; The high def pic does not look sharp but that could be due to hand movement. It does appear to look darker than the dvd counterpart though.
GROUP2-GROUP OF PEOPLE; very close. If anything, there is a difference in the color green of which I favor the dvd pic.
GROUP3-BULLHORN-NOte the upper right hand corner of the background of the trees on the dvd versus the high-def. The color is nicer and more detail is showing on the dvd pic.
GROUP4-HAT-The high def does not look sharp but that could be hand shake. Colors on both pics look the same.
Group5-SEARCHING-close in sharpness and color with handshake a factor.
AUDIO: I had two channel audio only on the tv for both broadcast and dvd player. The dvd player won hands down reproducing more details of the stereo and a feeling of the surround track over two speakers at my sitting position than the digital sound broadcast.
